2nd Annual Polish Night

The Lajkonik Polish Folk Ensemble warmly invites you to our 2nd Annual Polish Night at St. Cyril Catholic Church. This evening of food, folk dance and song by Lajkonik will take place on Saturday, March 24th at 6 p.m. at Nicholson Hall of St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church.
The plan for this evening? A delicious Polish supper teamed with a fun performance by Lajkonik Polish Folk Ensemble. Last year our first Polish Night raised funds so our group could attend the International Festival of Polish Dance Groups held in Rzeszow, Poland. We enjoyed our time there and learned so much from other groups from around the world. The trip was a huge success. To all of you who supported us, our warmest thank you.

LAJKONIK's first public performance was in 1998 at the Tucson Heritage Experience Festival held in downtown Tucson, and since that time we have entertained audiences at many local events.

Our dance group consists of several families who share a love for Polish customs and folklore. Our aim is to develop in our children and in those who we entertain an appreciation for the traditions, the dances and music of Poland.

Lajkonik is now back from the Rzeszów festival that took place in Poland in July of 2011. (http://www.festiwal.rzeszow.pl) We also particpated in the "Swiat pod Kyczera" festival in various cities around Poland. To read about our adventures please visit our blog. A monthly mass in Polish at St. Cyril's brings together many members of Tucson's Polish community, many of whom have donated costumes, money and supplies and strongly supported our efforts.

Although we are independent, St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church and the Arizona Polish Club provide an anchor for our group by providing rehearsal facilities and encouragement.

The organization, Solidarity Tucson, has also provided support for our activities.
